An online escape room
with a live host

"Real virtual team building: a mission, teams, a clock and a winner."

Operation Parallax Online is the remote version of our portable escape room: the same cyber-espionage story, played on its own website instead of with a physical box. It is designed for teams that cannot meet in the same place.

The session starts in your Zoom or Teams meeting with a Froggy host who tells the story of the mission. The group then splits into teams, each in its own breakout room, and every member joins the game with the same code from their browser. Whatever one person solves, the rest of the team sees instantly.

When the teams submit their accusation, everyone comes back to the main room for the final briefing: the case is solved, the ranking is shown and the winning team is announced.

Illustrative images: we don't show the real challenges so we don't spoil the game.

The mission

Operation Parallax

Parallax, a hacker organisation, has broken into TechnoCore's systems and stolen information about a new artificial intelligence that it plans to use for a global cyber-attack. The CEO suspects that one of his closest executives is working with the hackers.

Your team comes in as cyber-security specialists. The clock starts the moment you accept the mission.

01
Find the coordinates that reveal where Parallax's base of operations is hidden.
02
Unmask the traitor: who did it, whether they acted alone and why they betrayed the company.

What each team will find
in the virtual escape room

01

Interactive challenges

Eight challenges to complete the coordinates: pieces to drag, locks, routes, hidden messages and an optional bonus. The team can split them up and work in parallel.

02

Investigation tools

A magnifier, UV light, torch and mirror to run over the documents. Not everything is visible at first glance: part of the challenge is knowing where to look.

03

360º VR scene and audio

A 360º virtual reality scene that opens in the browser or on a phone, and a recovered audio recording that only appears once the team gets far enough.

04

Artificial intelligence

The game uses artificial intelligence at key moments of the investigation. We won't tell you how: finding out is part of the game.

05

Points and ranking

Every solved challenge adds points, every hint and mistake takes some away, and time counts. When a team accuses, how complete its theory is also counts. The ranking is projected at the close.

How the
online team building works

Everything happens in your Zoom or Teams meeting and in the browser. Nothing to install.

01
Live briefing
The host opens the session with the whole group, tells the story of the mission and forms the teams. Each team gets its access code.
02
Team rooms
Each team moves to its breakout room and joins the game from the browser. First the coordinates, then the investigation to find the traitor. The game masters drop into the rooms as they go.
03
The accusation
The team presents its theory: who did it, whether they had help and why. If a team gets stuck, it can ask for hints or call the game master.
04
Final briefing and winner
Everyone comes back to the main room. The case is solved, the ranking is shown and the winning team is announced.

Virtual team building
that isn't just another video call

Most online activities for companies end up being one more video call: someone talks, everyone else listens with their camera off. In an online escape room there are no spectators. Each team has its own room, its own clock and a problem that only gets solved if everyone chips in.

The whole team seeing the same progress in real time changes the dynamic. Some people take one challenge, others take another, and when someone solves theirs the rest see it instantly. Getting organised, splitting the work and pooling what each person has found is part of the game.

The live host is what turns it into an event rather than a link sent by email. The host opens the session with the whole group and closes it with the solution to the case and the ranking, which is when teams compare how each of them reached their theory. Meanwhile, our game masters drop into the rooms in case any team gets stuck.

If you can meet in person, the same mission exists as a portable escape room for companies, with a physical box, at your office or any venue you choose.

Skills the team builds
in the online escape room

Solving a case remotely, against the clock, tests how a team that usually works apart communicates and organises itself.

Remote communication

Without sitting at the same table, what one person finds is only useful if they explain it well. The team learns to share information clearly.

Splitting the work

There are eight challenges open at once. The team that splits the work and prioritises moves faster than the one that does everything together.

Critical thinking

The suspects have alibis and the documents hide contradictions. You have to cross-check data and not settle for the first version.

Decision making

Every hint and every wrong accusation costs points. The team has to decide when to ask for help and when it is sure of its theory.

Cooperation

The coordinates are only complete once all eight challenges are solved. Nobody wins alone: the result always belongs to the team.

Focus on goals

There are two objectives and a clock. The team that keeps them in sight while solving challenges gets to the accusation first.
